Let’s be honest. When you looked at a Rin and Seri commander deck for the first time, you probably went, “Awww!” and then immediately thought, “Wait… this is actually busted.” And you’re right on both counts.
This deck is perfect for people who love tokens, life gain, board control, and of course, the majestic chaos of dogs and cats fighting side by side. Rin and Seri, Inseparable, is a Naya (red, green, white) token-producing powerhouse that lets you make an army of furry friends every time you cast a Dog or Cat. Oh, and did I mention they bite?
Let’s break down how to build the deck, from early-game purring to late-game growling.
The Commander: Rin and Seri, Inseparable

Mana Cost: 1RGW
Text: Whenever you cast a Dog spell, create a 1/1 green Cat. Whenever you cast a Cat spell, create a 1/1 white Dog. You can also tap Rin & Seri and pay Naya colors to deal damage equal to the number of Dogs you control to any target and gain life equal to the number of Cats.
If you’ve ever wanted to weaponize wholesome animal companionship, now is your chance.
Early Game Strategy: Play Pets, Make Friends
Your opening turns should focus on ramp and early pet production. You want to curve out with cheap Cats and Dogs to flood the board before your opponents can set up their scarier nonsense (looking at you, Muldrotha).
Key Moves:
Play mana rocks like Arcane Signet and Farseek so you don’t fall behind.
Drop your 2 and 3-cost Cats and Dogs like it’s adoption day at the shelter.
Don’t be afraid to cast Rin and Seri early if you can protect them.
Sneaky tip: Rin and Seri don’t trigger off token creation—only spells. So cast your pets like a responsible pet owner, don’t just summon them from thin air (yet).
Mid-Game Strategy: Token Takeover
This is where your deck starts to hiss and bark in unison. Focus on swarming the board with creatures, doubling tokens, and taking over the game via sheer adorableness and terrifying numbers.
Goals:
Use Cathars' Crusade to make your creatures beefy every time a token is born.
Protect your board with cards like Heroic Intervention or Tajic, Legion’s Edge.
Use draw engines like Welcoming Vampire or Toski, Bearer of Secrets. Yes, he’s a squirrel, but he understands you need cards. Make him an honorary dog/cat.
At this point, people are either ignoring you (big mistake) or plotting your downfall. Be ready.
Late Game Strategy: Unleash the Zoo-pocalypse
Now you go full beast mode. You’ve got a wall of tokens, and it’s time to start taking names and marking your territory.
Tactics:
Activate Rin and Seri to dome opponents or control their boards.
Swing in wide with anthems like Shared Animosity or Beastmaster Ascension.
If you’re really feeling spicy, drop an Overrun or Craterhoof Behemoth to end games in one glorious cuddle party.
This is also when you say things like “I’m going to tap my puppy to kill your dragon” with complete sincerity.
5 Cards You Absolutely Need

Felidar Retreat
Landfall makes cats and buffs your team. Yes, please. It should also be noted that his buff ability applies to your dogs as well. We are all about sharing here.

Pack Leader
Pumps your Dogs and makes them indestructible in combat. Woof.

Anointed Procession
Doubles your tokens, doubles your fun, doubles your problems for the table. The downside is that it is very expensive, so apologize to the bank account before running your card.

Divine Visitation
Remember the movie All Dogs Go to Heaven? Here is the Sequel that includes cats. All the tokens you create are now 4/4 Angels with flying and vigilance.

Second Harvest
A late-game bomb, Second Harvest doubles all of your tokens on the board which can give you an insurmountable army of fluff.
Your Rin and Seri, Inseparable Commander Deck
Playing Rin and Seri isn’t just a deck—it’s a lifestyle. It’s about flooding the board with furry friends, using sheer numbers to beat your opponents, and occasionally growling at your own cards when you start to topdeck.
Whether you’re a cat person, a dog person, or a chaos goblin pretending to be both, Rin and Seri have a place in your collection—and maybe your heart.
Now go forth and summon some pets. Just don’t forget to bring treats for the table.
