Landfall & Fury: Building Your Omnath, Locus of Rage Commander Deck

If you’re looking to smash face with Elementals and rain lava on your enemies, an Omnath, Locus of Rage Commander Deck may be your next favorite. As a powerhouse in red-green (Gruul) colors, Omnath creates high-powered elementals when you play lands and punishes opponents for killing your creatures. Building around him is all about ramp, recursion, and relentless pressure.

Why Play Omnath, Locus of Rage?

Omnath is a 7-mana 5/5 that does two amazing things:

  1. Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you create a 5/5 red and green Elemental.

  2. Whenever Omnath or another Elemental you control dies, it deals 3 damage to any target.

Green elemental creature Omnath, surrounded by flames, stands in a dark cityscape. Text describes landfall ability and effects.

It’s a deck that scales incredibly well with the game’s pace and can explode out of nowhere with a huge turn.

Omnath, Locus of Rage Commander Deck: Core Strategy

To make Omnath shine, you want to focus on:

  • Landfall triggers: Play extra lands each turn.

  • Elemental synergies: Take advantage of token creation and damage triggers.

  • Sacrifice and recursion: Kill your own tokens strategically to burn opponents.

  • Ramp and mana-fixing: Hit 7 mana fast and keep lands flowing.

5 Must-Include Cards for Omnath, Locus of Rage

Magic: The Gathering card "Scapeshift." Underwater scene with fish, trees, and light filtering through water. Text includes rules and flavor quote.

1. Scapeshift

Sacrifice all your lands to bring in a fresh batch and generate a massive wave of Elementals. With Omnath out, this can help end the game pretty quickly.

Naga Cleric in desert setting, casting green magic. Card text: "Ramunap Excavator" and "You may play land cards from your graveyard."

2. Ramunap Excavator

You know all of those lands you just sacrificed? Now you can bring them back. Ramunap Excavator's ability to play lands from the graveyard is extra powerful when combined with other land sacrifice abilities as your lands are not off limits while he is on the board.

A figure raises arms amid vibrant vines and ruins. The card title "Splendid Reclamation," with text about restoring land, is visible.

3. Splendid Reclamation

Dont want to bring those lands back one by one? Fine. After using Scapeshift or Crop Rotation-type effects, this fills your board with Elementals in one massive burst.

Oracle of Mul Daya card: Elf Shaman in forest holding staff with hanging objects; text describes card abilities; mystical, earthy tones.

4. Oracle of Mul Daya

This card can be swapped for Rites of Flourishing (or run both!) but I like the fact that only I get to play extra land each turn. With land fall being the key run here any extra land you can play is a bonus to your pool and your battlefield.

A woman with long hair crouches in an arched, stone corridor, holding a weapon. The card reads "Perilous Forays" with enchantment details.

5. Perilous Forays

You have a stacked board, now it's time for the burn. Perilous Forays lets you kill your elementals, deal burn damage, and then instantly replace them by playing another land. Since it isn't a tap effect you can do it as much as you want provided you have the mana to do so. Go nuts!

Other Essentials

  • Ramp cards: Cultivate, Kodama’s Reach, Nature’s Lore, Summer Bloom

  • Land recursion: Crucible of Worlds is cool

  • Token doublers: Parallel Lives, Doubling Season

  • Finishers: Warstorm Surge, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Craterhoof Behemoth

Shuffle up and Draw

Building an Omnath, Locus of Rage deck is all about momentum. The longer the game goes, the more explosive your turns become—until one land drop becomes a dozen 5/5s and a flurry of burn triggers.

If you like big mana, big tokens, and big plays, Omnath delivers the rage in full force.
