Through the Omenpaths - Adding Universes Beyond to Magic: the Gathering Arena and MTGO

With Univeses Beyond full sets becoming standard legal, Wizards of the Coast has been hard at work trying to find a way to blend these universes into the digital platforms without causing confusion or piecing together a disconnected product.

Today Wizards has announced a new initiative to help bring cohesion between the physical and digital worlds of Magic: The Gathering. Enter Through the Omenpaths.

What is Through the Omenpaths?

Through the Omenpaths sets will be digital-only versions of Universes Beyond cards that wouldn't otherwise be making the jump from tabletop to Arena or MTGO. They’ll play the same—same mechanics, same power—but they’ll feature brand-new names, art, and flavor to fit into Magic’s core multiverse. Think of them as alternate-reality clones of the Universes Beyond cards that keep gameplay and lore consistent.

Not every Universes Beyond set will get this treatment—only the ones that aren’t being released digitally. This helps keep the formats on Arena and other digital platforms aligned without needing awkward workarounds. For now, these Through the Omenpaths sets will only cover full releases that are legal across all formats.

Which NEw Sets Will Through The Omenpaths Include?

For the remainder of 2025, Universes Beyond sets Magic: The Gathering | Final Fantasy and Magic: The Gathering | Avatar the Last Airbender will make their way in full to Magic: The Gathering Arena and MTGO.

The first Through the Omenpaths set will be Magic: The Gathering | Marvel's Spider-Man. Our best guess is that it is harder to license the products for digital play. Therefore, if they have a traditional Magic character, say Sheoldred, start spinning webs and using some Venom moves, they avoid yet another fee and save a few dollars.

The Bottom Line

It all comes down to consistency. With Through the Omenpath, Magic: The Gathering can avoid cutting out cards and bring full sets to their massively popular digital platforms that have historically missed out on key content.

At the end of the day the players win when they have access to all of the cards wherever they play. What do you think of the new Throught the Omenpaths system? Let us know in the comments below!
