MagicCon Detroit 2027: everything you need to know

I've sat through plenty of conventions in cities that clearly weren't built to host them. MagicCon Detroit 2027 is happening 20 minutes from where I live, in a city built for events like this. I've been waiting for this announcement for a long time.

Detroit has never hosted a MagicCon. Now it's the first stop on one of the biggest MagicCon years Wizards has run: four shows across four continents, and we get to kick it all off. If you already read our full 2027 MagicCon schedule roundup, this is the deep dive on the one that actually matters if you live anywhere near southeast Michigan.

When and where is MagicCon Detroit 2027?

MagicCon Detroit 2027 runs February 26th through 28th at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit. Cobo Hall, IYKYK. Three days, one show floor, the usual MagicCon sprawl of tournaments, panels, artists, and vendors, plus whatever Detroit-specific surprises Wizards is still sitting on.

Badges went live September 29th at 10 a.m. Pacific through mcdetroit.mtgfestivals.com. Early-bird pricing on every adult badge holds through October 5th at 10 a.m. Pacific, or until a tier sells out, whichever comes first. Wizards is explicit that sold-out tiers do not get restocked during the early-bird window, so if a badge type looks right for you, buy it now instead of waiting for a Michigan winter to talk you out of it.

What each badge tier actually gets you

Every badge, adult or youth, comes with at least one copy of the awesome new Farseek MagicCon promo, a green one-mana ramp sorcery that searches for a Plains, Island, Swamp, or Mountain, illustrated for this show by Flavio Greco Paglia and featuring one of MTG's favorite weirdos, Fblthp.

Beyond that, the tiers split hard on price and perks.

• Single Day (early-bird $43.60, regular $53.60): one Friday, Saturday or Sunday badge, one non-foil Farseek.

• Premium Single Day (early-bird $78.60, regular $93.60): the single-day badge plus two Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Collector Boosters.

• Weekend (early-bird $113.60, regular $128.60): all three days, two non-foil Farseeks.

• Premium Weekend (early-bird $173.60, regular $193.60): weekend access, two traditional foil Farseeks, three Collector Boosters, an event playmat and an official pin.

• Legendary VIP (early-bird $503.60, regular $578.60): weekend access with a dedicated morning queue lane, a branded lanyard, drinkware, a playmat and a 10% show store discount.

• SOLD OUT - Black Lotus VIP (early-bird $1,103.60, regular $1,203.60): the full VIP experience, including Thursday first-look access, a weekend-long sealed league, a Commander Unknown Planechase event, priority 9:45 a.m. entry, and a Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Secret Lair bundle.

Youth badges cover ages 10 to 15, and kids 9 and under get in free with a paying adult guardian. Anyone 10 or older needs their own badge to walk the floor.

Pro Tour Nauctis headlines the weekend

Pro Tour Nauctis runs the full weekend in Detroit, built around Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Draft and Modern Constructed. Wizards has a $500,000 prize pool and the Black Lotus trophy on the line, making this the first Pro Tour of the 2027 season and the first time that trophy is handed out in Michigan.

You do not need to be at Huntington Place to watch th action. Wizards is streaming the whole thing on the official Play MTG YouTube channel and twitch.tv/magic, with #PTNAU as the tag to follow. If you are going in person, plan around the feature match area filling up fast on Saturday and Sunday, since that is where the cut gets decided.

What your badge unlocks on the show floor

A standard badge gets you into the event. That includes the Mana Stage panels and events, the Official Show Store and Magic Marketplace, Free Play and the Command Zone, Art of Magic, a Detroit-specific scavenger hunt, the Gathering Grounds, Family Magic, Creator Central and meet-and-greets.

Mana Stage panels and most meet-and-greets run first-come, first-served with limited room, so if there is one panel you are building your Saturday around, get there early. Family Spark Bundle holders also get a separate line for first access to the show floor each morning, which Wizards is careful to note is not the same as early entry.

A local's guide to going

Huntington Place sits downtown on the riverfront, which means Detroit locals have real choices most MagicCon cities don't offer. Take the People Mover or drive in and park in one of the downtown structures a few blocks out rather than fighting for anything attached to the building. If you're coming from the suburbs, give yourself extra time on 75 on a Friday morning during rush hour and the lovely year-round construction; badge lines start building well before doors open.

Late February in Detroit is absolutely frigid, so layer up for outdoor walking between parking and the hall even if you're spending the whole day inside. Windsor is a straight shot across the river if any Ontario friends want to make a weekend of it, and downtown has enough hotels within walking distance that you don't need to book something attached to the convention center months out, though I wouldn't wait too long either.

Wizards has confirmed the badges, the venue, and Pro Tour Nauctis for MagicCon Detroit 2027, and is holding back guest lists, the full Ticketed Play schedule, Art of Magic details, and cosplay contest specifics for later announcements. If you already have a badge, the next thing worth watching for is the Ticketed Play schedule, since that's when sealed leagues and side events actually go up, separate from your badge purchase.
