MagicCon 2027 schedule: Detroit, Tokyo, Vegas, and Amsterdam confirmed

Wizards of the Coast just handed the Midwest something it's been waiting years for. During the MagicCon: Amsterdam preview panel, Wizards confirmed the full MagicCon 2027 schedule: four stops worldwide, and for the first time, one of them is Detroit.

Why MagicCon Detroit matters for Midwest players

Detroit closes a gap that's been open since MagicCon started. Chicago got close in 2024 and 2025, and Minneapolis had a turn in 2023, but MagicCons have otherwise leaned overseas, coastal, or sunny: Las Vegas, Atlanta, Amsterdam, Barcelona. A huge chunk of the competitive and casual player base has been budgeting travel and hotel costs just to get to a con at all.

MagicCon Detroit 2027 changes that math for Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and a good stretch of Ontario. That's not a small regional footnote. That's one of the densest LGS and tournament scenes in North America finally getting a home game.

When is MagicCon Detroit 2027?

MagicCon Detroit runs February 26th to 28th, 2027. It's the first event on the 2027 calendar, and it kicks off a year that expands the MagicCon rotation from three cities to four. We're based in Metro Detroit, so getting to see the whole community show up in our own backyard is going to be a good one.

If you've been driving to Vegas, Chicago, or wherever the closest stop happened to land, this is the first time "closest stop" might actually mean close.

What's the full MagicCon 2027 schedule?

Four cities, four seasons:

  • Detroit — February 26-28, 2027

  • Tokyo — May 14-16, 2027

  • Las Vegas — August 27-29, 2027

  • Amsterdam — December 3-5, 2027

Tokyo joining the lineup is its own headline. It's the first mainline MagicCon stop in Japan, a market that's had massive Magic engagement for decades without ever hosting one of these events.

What happened to MagicCon Atlanta?

Atlanta closes out the 2026 calendar and isn't part of the confirmed 2027 rotation. Wizards didn't frame this as Atlanta getting cut for a lesser city. Detroit and Tokyo are additions to an expanding schedule, not a straight swap. Whether Atlanta comes back in a future year wasn't addressed on the panel.

New In-Universe Magic sets coming in 2027

Three mainline sets kick off a new story arc in the Multiverse:

  • Nauctis: The Sunken Realm

  • Kamigawa: Titanbreach

  • Zhalfir

These follow the conclusion of the arc that started with Wilds of Eldraine back in 2023, which wraps up this October with Reality Fracture. Wizards also confirmed three additional Universes Beyond sets landing in April, August, and November 2027, but we will have to wait to hear more on those.

Kamigawa: Titanbreach is the one that's going to eat the most oxygen. The Kamigawa block has one of the most devoted followings in Magic's history, and Ikoria's invasion of the plane already has players speculating about a monster-versus-mech collision.

How do you get your MagicCon tickets?

Tickets for the 2027 MagicCon events haven't dropped yet. Wizards typically opens registration several months ahead of the event through the official MagicCon site, with badge tiers ranging from single-day passes to full-weekend access with tournament entry. Once sales go live, expect early badges to move fast given how much pent-up Midwest demand this announcement just surfaced.
