OCG July 2026 banlist: Kewl Tune just got dismantled

Before anyone panics: this is the OCG list, Japan-only, effective July 1. Your TCG deck is untouched. The most recent TCG update was May 18, and Konami's said the next one is still "a few months" out. But the OCG list is still worth your attention, since it's usually the preview trailer for whatever eventually lands stateside.

And this one's a real shakeup. Fourteen cards moved, and the headline is simple: Kewl Tune got taken out back.

The big hit: Kewl Tune loses its engine

Yu-Gi-Oh! card Naturia Rosewhip shows a smiling green rose creature in a pastel garden, with butterflies and effect text.

Naturia Rosewhip goes from Unlimited straight to Forbidden. That's the searchable floodgate that made Kewl Tune's whole plan tick. Pair that with Kewl Tune Rotary dropping to Limited and Kewl Tune Synchro landing at Semi-Limited, and the deck loses its consistency from three different angles at once. This isn't a nerf, it's a dismantling. Whatever Kewl Tune looks like in August, it isn't the deck that's been running the format.

Called by the Grave: forbidden, and hand traps just got a lot better

This is the sneaky one. Called by the Grave going from Limited to Forbidden doesn't sound as flashy as banning a whole engine piece, but it changes how every hand trap in the format actually functions.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Called by the Grave Spell Card showing a man recoiling from a green hand in a dark grave-like scene.

No more free negation for one card. If your deck leans on Maxx "C", Ash Blossom, or any of the usual suspects, they just got meaningfully more reliable, since the generic answer that shut them down is gone.

Geonator Transverser and Harpie's Feather Storm also joined the Forbidden list, an FTK enabler and an oppressive turn-control tool respectively. Neither is a surprise. Both had been circled by the community for a while.

Two notable comebacks

Elder Entity Norden and Mind Master both dropped from Forbidden down to Limited. Neither is walking straight back into relevance at one copy, but both are worth a second look if you're building around graveyard shenanigans or hand disruption. A card coming back from Forbidden always means Konami's decided the format can handle it again, which is its own kind of signal about where they think the meta's headed.

The full list

Forbidden: Geonator Transverser, Naturia Rosewhip, Called by the Grave, Harpie's Feather Storm

Limited: Kewl Tune Rotary, Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom, Synchro Overtake, Solemn Judgment, Elder Entity Norden, Mind Master

Semi-Limited: Perfectron Hydradrive Dragon, Kewl Tune Synchro, Solemn Warning, Mathmech Circular

Unlimited: Spright Blue, Tearlaments Reinoheart, Toadally Awesome, Trickstar Reincarnation

What this means for TCG players

Nothing changes in your deck box today. But if you're speculating on singles or watching where the format's headed, this is your early warning. Called by the Grave leaving the OCG format is the kind of change that tends to eventually cross over, and if it does, expect hand trap prices to firm up here too. Kewl Tune staples, on the other hand, just took a real hit to their long-term ceiling. If you were holding copies expecting them to hold value, this is the moment to reassess, not after the TCG list catches up.

OCG July 2026 banlist FAQ

Does the July 2026 OCG banlist affect the TCG? No. This list is Japan-only and effective July 1, 2026. The most recent TCG banlist update was May 18, 2026, and remains in effect. Konami has said the next TCG update is still a few months out.

What deck got hit hardest in the July 2026 OCG banlist? Kewl Tune. Naturia Rosewhip went from Unlimited to Forbidden, Kewl Tune Rotary dropped to Limited, and Kewl Tune Synchro dropped to Semi-Limited, removing the deck's consistency from three directions at once.

Why does banning Called by the Grave matter so much? Called by the Grave was the generic answer to hand traps like Maxx "C" and Ash Blossom. Removing it from the format makes those hand traps significantly more reliable across every deck that runs them.

Which cards came back from Forbidden in this update? Elder Entity Norden and Mind Master both moved from Forbidden to Limited.
