Pokemon Day! One of the best days of the year, chock full of news and update on everything Pocket Monsters. And as most anticipated, we got a look at the next set, Triumphant Light, releasing on February 28th, 2025.
Arceus Makes His Debut
The god Pokemon Arceus, know for his type shifting abilities and looking like a future horse, leads the set.

Arceus' ability Fabled Luster makes him immune to all status conditions and his attack Ultimate Force does 70 damage plus 20 for each of your benched pokemon for a maximum 130 damage. Basicall a heavy, normal type, Pikachu EX. But there are several cards that have abilities that play off of Arceus EX.
Triumphant Light Introduces Link Abilities
Abilities in pokemon are huge. From putting pokemon to sleep to adding extra energy or doubling down on damage (I hate you Lucario EX) they are free moves that give your deck a much needed boost. With new sets come new abilities and Triumphant Light seems to be tieing several abilities to haveing an Arceus on the field.

Take for example Tyranitar's ability Power Link that adds 30 damage to your attack if you have an Arceus on the board. This turns Arceus into not only a heavy hitter but a pretty versatile utility pokemon.
You also have Abamasnow with Vigor Link, reducing the energy needed to attack, Rotom's Speed Link removing it's retreat cost, and Raichu's Resilience Link that reduces the damage it takes by 30. These Link abilities have the chance to be game changers and open the path for a shakeup in the meta.
Get Ready to Rank

The other big announcement snuck in at the end of the trailer was that ranked matches are on the way this March. This is something the community has been asking for since launch. Letting trainers put a number to how good they actually are, player ranks adds to the competative scene. A rank system also has the chance to introduce unique, ranked based rewards and challenges much like Pokemon GO's level system.
Let it Rip!
Triumphant Light is a expansion pack like Mythical Island, so it will be a smaller set than Space/Time Smackdown. Still, it looks like it promises to pack a pretty big punch. You can start ripping packs tomorrow, February 28th.

As a special bonus, you get free Genetic Apex packs that guarantee a 4 diamond or higher card, helping everyone complete their sets before they are left in the dust by the flurry of new releases.
So again, get ready to spend all of your gold and hourglasses, racing your friends to see who can complete Triumphant Light first!
