The Best Mounts in Magic the Gathering | Our Top 5

With the impending release of Aetherdrift, Vehicles and mounts are going to get a ton of support very quickly. In preparation for the release, we have put together what we believe are the best mounts in MtG right now (but probably going to change in February).

5. Seraphic Steed

5. Seraphic Steed

  • Mana Cost: GW

  • Key Features:

    • Saddle 4

    • First Strike

    • Lifelink

    • Token Creation

  • Why is it on the List?: One of my favorite unicorns, Seraphic Steed has a beefier Saddel cost than other cards on the list but it does create tokens that have flying, giving you an advantage over land-based decks. Seraphic Steed also has lifelink and first strike making it a little bit harder to get rid of. Give it a bit of protection and spawn those Angels!

4. Caustic Bronco

4. Caustic Bronco

  • Mana Cost: 1B

  • Key Features:

    • Saddle 3

    • Card Draw

    • Ping Damage

  • Why is it on the List?: Caustic Bronco could switch spots with number 3 on the list. Snakepony Is a great way to get some card draw into a black build. What makes it special is its ability to inflict pain on your opponent while saddled. Any time you can mirror a Dark Confidant you are going to have a good time.

3. Ornery Tumblewagg

3. Ornery Tumblewagg

  • Mana Cost: 2G

  • Key Features:

    • Saddle 2

    • +1/+1 Counter Creation

    • +1/+1 Counter Doubling

  • Why is it on the List?: Ornery Tumblewagg's advantage is that it creates +1/+1 tokens just for having an upkeep, making it a recommended card for any proliferate deck that runs green. Armadillomon doesnt even need to deal damage to activate his token-doubling power making most Hydras scarier than they already are.

    2. Calamity, Galloping Inferno

2. Calamity, Galloping Inferno

  • Mana Cost: 4RR

  • Key Features:

    • Saddle 1

    • Haste

    • Token Creation

  • Why is it on the List?: Mordor Rapidash is a lot of fun. It starts with a low saddle cost of one and ends with 2 attacking tokens of creatures you control. Those creatures don't need to be the same as the text asks you to repeat the process, not the creation. The sweetener is Calamity doesn't even have to do damage for its effect to ping, it only needs to attack. The ability to copy 2 bombs on your board makes Calamity, Galloping Inferno our second-best Mount in Magic.

    1. The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride

1. The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride

  • Mana Cost: 3BG

  • Key Features:

    • Saddle 1

    • Trample

    • Haste

    • Land Ramp

    • Sac Outlet

  • Why is it on the List?: You mess with the hoppity you get the boppity. One of Magic's favorite Toads makes an excellent land ramp outlet with a very low saddle cost of 1. At the same time, it gives you credit for sacrificing creatures you were probably going to yeet already. Add on trample and haste and it's almost guaranteed to do some form of damage at some point to get its effect going.

So what do you think of the list? Did we forget anyone? Drop your favorite mounts below and how you use them!
