If you’ve been following Disney’s Lorcana, the past few months have been packed with exciting developments, from major rotations to new expansions and formats. Let’s explore everything that’s shaping the game’s future, all in one place.
The Fabled Set and What It Brings
Lorcanians, rejoice! The much-anticipated Fabled set hits shelves on September 5, 2025. This expansion brings two brand-new rarities, Epic and Iconic, designed to wow collectors.

Epic cards slot in between Legendary and Enchanted in terms of rarity and artwork quality. Iconic cards are even more exclusive, with only two per set, featuring bespoke foiling and 3D effects.
Putting Rotation into Play (and the Infinity Alternative)
Starting this September, Lorcana will adopt a rotation system similar to what Magic: The Gathering uses. This means the four oldest sets, The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursula’s Return, will no longer be allowed in official competitive formats.

Don’t worry, however, if you want to keep building with your favorite older cards—an “Infinity Constructed” format without restrictions will debut later in the year, giving everyone a place to play with full collections.
Set 7 and 8: Archazia’s Island & Reign of Jafar
We already know what’s come before Fabled. Archazia’s Island, released in March 2025, introduced the dual-ink mechanic, cards that tap into two ink colors, and the Vanish ability. It featured beloved characters like Bolt, along with familiar faces from Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
Then came Reign of Jafar in June, bringing back dual-ink cards, highlighting the royal scoundrel Jafar, and introducing Bambi, Thumper, and Flower, plus new gold foil treatments for Enchanted cards.
More than Just Cards: Formats, Events & Tournaments
Over at Gen Con 2025, Lorcana unveiled even more beyond the cards, including 1,000-piece puzzles featuring original Lorcana artwork. These puzzles go on sale starting September 1 and include an exclusive promotional card: Mickey Mouse – True Friend.

Competitively, the scene is buzzing. The first-ever World Championship took place in June at Walt Disney World, won by Dinh Khang Pham. In a heartfelt moment, European champion Domingo Martínez Ródenas shared how the game’s upcoming rotation and expansion slate could reinvigorate access and strategy for players everywhere.
What’s Next? Whispers in the Well and Winterspell
Looking ahead, Set 10 Whispers in the Well is slated for a mid-November 2025 release, following prereleases in the week prior. This expansion leans into mystery and investigation, with themes of emerging half-formed glimmers and detective-style Glimmers.
And early 2026 brings Winterspell, the eleventh set. While details are sparse, it promises to keep the momentum going as Lorcana evolves into the New Year.
