San Diego Comic-Con 2025 delivered a web-slinging surprise for Magic: The Gathering fans with the official reveal of the Marvel’s Spider-Man crossover set, launching September 26. As part of the Universes Beyond series, this set blends iconic comic book storytelling with Magic’s strategic gameplay — and the first wave of cards is already turning heads.
Legendary Spider-Men Across the Multiverse
Wizards of the Coast showcased five legendary Spider-Man variants, each representing a different corner of the Spider-Verse:

Spider-Man Noir (Uncommon): The perfect detective. Menace gives him an edge for attacking and rewards you with +1/+1 counters for attacking alone. Then it lets you control the deck with surveil. Perfect for Dimir players.

SP//dr (Uncommon): Peni Parker’s gives more power to super friend Captain America by adding card draw when you deal damage with a creature that is equipped.

Spider-Man 2099Â (Rare): I don't know how to feel about Spiderman 2099. A 2 drop that you can't play until turn 3 he has a unique ability that allows you to do direct damage. The trick is playing cards not from your hand which is generally a black thing. Will be interesting to see how people pull it off with Izzet colors.

Spider-Ham (Rare): A comedic twist with surprisingly potent abilities. Spider-Ham creates easily manipulated Food Tokens. He also runs heavy zoo support by giving what looks like every animal-based subtype +1/+1.
Peter Parker / The Amazing Spider-Man (Mythic Rare): A double-faced card that has a mana-activated transform The Peter Parker side grants you a 2/1 spider on entry and the Amazing Spider-Man gives your legendary creatures Webslinging, allowing you to cast them for GWU instead of their mana cost by returning a tapped creature you control to your hand.
Origin of Spider-Man & Iconic Moments
Also revealed was Origin of Spider-Man, a Saga card with three chapters for just two mana. These chapters generate tokens, add +1/+1 counters making your creatures Legendary Spider Heroes, and gives creatures double strike. It’s already being eyed for Standard and Pioneer and can be easily manipulated with counter control.

Collectors will also love the Iconic Moments treatment, featuring alternate art pulled straight from classic comic covers, like The Amazing Spider-Man 1 by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.
Gameplay Impact & Commander Potential
Peter Parker is poised to be a Commander favorite, enabling early plays of high-cost legends and buffing already popular commanders like Jodah. Its flexible casting and bounce synergy open up combo lines and tempo swings that seasoned players will appreciate.
Meanwhile, the set’s Welcome Decks in each color and available for hands-on play at SDCC are built to onboard new players, continuing Wizards’ push to make Universes Beyond a gateway into Magic.
Magic: The Gathering Spider-Man Lands Soon!
This crossover is more than just fan service; it’s a strategic move to expand Magic’s audience while honoring Spider-Man’s legacy. Whether you’re a competitive player, casual collector, or comic book aficionado, the Marvel x Magic set promises something for everyone.
Stay tuned for more spoilers as we swing closer to the Magic: The Gathering Spider-Man release. And if you’re building around Peter Parker, I’ve got some spicy Commander brews in mind, just say the word.
