MTG Universes Beyond Spider-Man | What We Know so Far

As a longtime Magic player and card hoarder, sorry, collector, the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man Universes Beyond set has me pretty excited. We’ve had crossovers before, but this one is approaching Lord of the Rings level. Spider-Man is more than just a hero; he’s a cultural icon, and his rogues’ gallery alone could fill out an entire Commander pod. Let’s dig into what we know so far and what makes this set exciting for MTG fans around the globe.

What’s in the Spider-Verse Set?

The Marvel’s Spider-Man set is scheduled to swing into stores this September as part of the Universes Beyond product line. This isn’t just a few Secret Lair cards or a one-off Commander deck. This is a full MTG Spider-Man expansion, complete with booster packs, Collector Boosters, and more.

It will be standard legal, which is a big deal. Previous Universes Beyond sets like Warhammer 40K or Doctor Who were focused on Commander. This one will join the main game, giving your local draft night a dose of Spidey action. The set features not only Peter Parker but also Gwen Stacy (Ghost-Spider), Miles Morales, Venom, and iconic villains like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Kraven the Hunter.

Products to Watch For

Wizards is going all-in on this release, and the product line reflects that. Here’s what you can expect:

Play Boosters

Standard booster packs that mix draftable cards with constructed staples. Expect Spidey-flavored twists on familiar Magic mechanics.

Collector Boosters

This is where things get juicy for collectors. Expect alternate art, foil treatments, extended borders, and high-end chase cards. These are designed for players who love the bling.

Magic: The Gathering card box featuring Spider-Man, Venom, and Green Goblin in action on a city backdrop. Text: "Spidey's Spectacular Showdown."

Scene Boxes

Each box contains six full-art cards that piece together to form a cinematic tableau—think comic book panels in Magic form. If you’re the kind of collector who still has your Marvel trading cards in a binder, this one’s for you.

Welcome Decks

Intro decks are built around characters like Spider-Man, Ghost-Spider, and Venom. These are great for getting friends into the game or just having themed decks on hand for casual play.

Previewed Cards and Mechanics

A few preview cards have already hit the web, and they give us a sense of what to expect mechanically.

Spider-Man swings through a cityscape. Text below describes card game abilities. Bold colors create an action-packed, dynamic scene.

Sensational Spider-Man is a 3-mana blue-white card that taps creatures, stuns them, then removes stun counters and draws cards. A flavorful nod to Spidey's agility and tactics.

A blue, menacing creature with sharp teeth and a long tongue is depicted on a card titled "Venom, Deadly Devourer." Text describes abilities.

Venom, Deadly Devourer is a 4/4 black-green menace machine that exiles creatures from graveyards and powers up Symbiotes.

A green goblin villain flies on a glider in a cityscape. Card text reads: "Legendary Creature — Goblin Human Villain" with special abilities.

Green Goblin, Nemesis turns discard into value by creating Treasure or growing bigger. A flavorful, chaotic threat.

Smiling villain in green suit with mechanical arms. Text: "Doc Ock, Evil Inventor. Legendary Creature—Human Scientist Villain. 8/8".

Doc Ock, Evil Inventor is a beefy 8/8 that animates your artifacts into serious attack threats.

Glowing jack-o'-lanterns hover over a graffiti background. Text: Pumpkin Bombs, an artifact card with game instructions.

Pumpkin Bombs, one of Goblin’s toys, lets you draw and ping based on fuse counters. It’s basically a ticking time bomb, in true Gobby fashion.

As a note, these cards will not appear on Magic Arena or MTGO. Instead, the digital versions will be part of an alternate set called Through the Omenpaths, with identical mechanics but different names and art.

For the Collectors: What Matters

If you’re here for value, nostalgia, or just sweet-looking cards, this set will have plenty to chase. The Scene Boxes could be collector bait but mostly flopped with the Lord of the Rings set.

The big thing to look out for is preorders. As we are learning from the Final Fantasy release, the earlier you lock in the better. As cards are revealed the hype grows and the prices increase. It is better to preorder early for $140 than to wait and have to pay nearly $200.

MTG Spider-man Swings in THis September!

The Spider-Man MTG set feels like one of the most ambitious Universes Beyond projects yet. It's weaving a rich narrative world into Magic's mechanics while giving both players and collectors a ton to get excited about.

Whether you’re looking to build a themed Commander deck, complete a Spider-Verse scene display, or just open packs hoping for a foil Venom, this set is shaping up to be a big crossover event and continue Marvel's creep into Magic: The Gathering.

Keep your web-shooters ready—this one’s going to be wild.
