MTG Marvel Super Heroes Buyer's Guide: Which Products Are Worth It

MTG Marvel Super Heroes landed last Friday, and the product lineup is one of the widest Wizards has ever put out for a single set. Beginner Box, Jumpstart Boosters, Play Boosters, Bundles, Draft Night, four separate Commander decks in two editions each, Collector Boosters, and Scene Boxes are all hitting shelves the same day, with a Gift Bundle following on July 17. That is a lot of ways to spend money on one set, but not every product is right for every kind of player.

We pulled the MSRP (good luck getting that) and contents list directly from Wizards' own MTG Marvel Super Heroes page and broke it down by who each product actually makes sense for, so you can figure out exactly where to put your money.

For Those New to Magic: The Gathering

Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes beginner box featuring Captain America and Iron Man on a black package, 13+。

Beginner Box — $34.99

The Beginner Box is a complete learn-to-play package. Inside are 10 themed half-decks, 2 gameboard playmats, and every token needed to start playing. Two of the ten half-decks are a guided tutorial experience, one built around Iron Man and one built around Captain America, designed to walk a brand-new player through their first games step by step. Once the tutorial is finished, the other eight monocolor half-decks are there to keep exploring in a shuffle 2 and play style.

This is the right pickup if you are teaching a friend who has never played Magic before. I just started my 8-year-old daughter on the Beginner Box a few weeks ago, and it made the experience stress-free, and she was instantly hooked. A cheap, easy entry point to a lifetime of wallet woes.

Blue Magic: The Gathering Jumpstart Marvel Super Heroes booster pack with Captain America and Doctor Doom artwork, 20 cards, 13+

Jumpstart Boosters — $6.99 each

Jumpstart Boosters are a fast, chaotic way to sample a wider slice of the Marvel Universe than the Beginner Box offers. Each booster contains 20 cards built around one specific theme, and there are 51 different themes across the full Jumpstart lineup for this set. Grab two boosters, shuffle them together, and you have an instant 40-card deck ready to play against a friend who did the same thing. It is built for players who already understand the basics and want a quick, low-commitment way to try new strategies and characters.

The card in the Jumpstart boosters are not the same as the Play Boosters, so there's some collector value here as well.

For Building Out Your Game Night

Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes booster pack and bundle boxes with comic art, 13+ labels, black and red packaging

Play Boosters, Bundles, and Draft Night

Once you are past the beginner stage, this is where most regular Magic money is spent. A Play Booster is the standard pack, guaranteeing at least one rare or mythic rare card inside.

A Bundle runs $69.99 and includes 9 Play Boosters, 30 basic lands, and a traditional foil promo card, The Scarlet Witch. It's the most efficient way to get a real taste of the full set in one purchase, and the foil promo makes it a reasonable gift for a Marvel fan who collects more than they play.

Draft Night is built specifically for hosting a draft with friends and runs $119.99. It includes 12 Play Boosters, 90 basic lands, 10 double-sided tokens, and a Collector Booster as a prize for whoever wins the draft pod. If you already have a regular playgroup and want everything you need in one box, this is the cleanest option, especially with a genuine chase prize built in for the winner.

Four Marvel Magic: The Gathering Super Heroes Commander Deck boxes: Doom Prevails, Fantastic Four, Wakanda Forever, Avengers Assemble.

Commander Decks — $74.99 each

Four ready-to-play 100-card Commander decks follow the set, each with a borderless traditional foil commander and 10 double-sided tokens. Mister Fantastic leads a four-color deck built around Marvel's First Family. Captain America, Team Leader anchors a deck focused on assembling a wide army of Heros. Doctor Doom, King of Latveria runs a villainous Connive strategy, which we broke down in full in our Doom Prevails decklist guide. And T'Challa, the Black Panther powers an artifact and token-focused build, covered in our Wakanda Forever decklist guide.

Worth a quick flag for returning readers: Wizards' official Buyer's Guide lists the standard Commander deck MSRP at $74.99, which is five dollars higher than the $69.99 figure we and several other outlets reported earlier in our coverage based on prior listings. We're noting the change here rather than quietly changing it, since the actual shelf price at your local store may land closer to either number depending on retailer markup and timing.

For Collectors

Marvel Super Heroes Magic: The Gathering Collector Booster pack with Iron Man and Storm artwork on a gold wrapper, 15 cards, 13+

Collector Boosters — $37.99 each

Collector Boosters are where the eye-catching versions of cards live. Every pack includes multiple cards with special artwork, frames, and treatments, including borderless logo cards and showcase panel cards. Every Collector Booster also guarantees at least one borderless source material card, featuring artwork pulled directly from real Marvel comic pages and covers.

The headliner of the entire set, The Mind Stone, has a borderless cosmic foil treatment available exclusively in Collector Boosters. This is the chase card Wizards is building the whole collector experience around, and Collector Boosters are the only place to find it. Just know that less than 150 of them were printed.

Two Marvel Magic: The Gathering Super Heroes scene boxes, villains unleashed and heroes united, with comic art and bold text.

Scene Boxes — $41.99 each

Scene Boxes lean fully into the comic book presentation. Each box has 6 traditional foil borderless scene cards that combine into one continuous art piece, plus 6 matching art cards and a display easel to show off the artwork. The Heroes United Scene Box shows the Avengers preparing for battle, while the Villains Unleashed Scene Box puts Thanos, Ultron, and other major villains on display. Each box also includes 3 Play Boosters, so there is at least some new card content alongside the display pieces.

Four Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes Commander Deck boxes on a white background, with orange artwork and labels like Avengers Assemble and Wakanda Forever.

Collector's Edition Commander Decks — $159.99 each

For Commander players who want the showcase version, the Collector's Edition decks contain the exact same 100-card list as the standard Commander decks, but every single card and token is printed in surge foil, including the basic lands and tokens. This is the version to get if you already love a specific deck's strategy and want a version that looks as impressive on the table as it plays.

Marvel Age comic gift bundle cover with many colorful superheroes, bold blue title, and text Includes 1 Collector Booster and Gift Bundle

Gift Bundle — $89.99, releasing July 17

The Gift Bundle is the one product on this list that does not release alongside everything else. Available starting July 17, you get 1 Collector Booster, 9 Play Boosters, 30 basic lands, and a traditional foil Daredevil, Man Without Fear promo card. If you are buying for a Marvel fan who wants both new cards and a guaranteed Collector Booster hit, this is built specifically as a gift product.

Our Take on Where to Start

If you are brand new to Magic, the Beginner Box is the only real starting point. If you already play and want the most efficient single purchase to experience the set, the Bundle at $69.99 gives you nine packs and a promo for a reasonable price. If you have a playgroup ready to draft together, Draft Night is the better value since it bundles everything you need plus a prize. And if you are chasing The extremely rare Mind Stone, Collector Boosters are non-negotiable, since that card does not exist anywhere else.

For the Commander decks specifically, our advice is to pick based on strategy rather than price, since all four run the same MSRP. If Connive strategies and a deep villain bench interests you, Doom Prevails is the pick. If artifact synergy and token generation sound more appealing, Wakanda Forever is the stronger fit.
